Shocked wow, that's excellent!

You are obviously excellent with Visio, I could do with learning a thing or two!

I'll have a play with your sample file, thanks for that, it'll show me how you did those.

I'll send you a PM about something related..

Hope I'm not repeating what anyone else suggested (I'm at work and dashing this reply off quickly in the few minutes I've got to sneak some Eve stuff in)..but knowing the distance across individual systems might be useful--particularly for those large systems that take a couple of warps in a small ship to get across them.

It was mentioned earlier this thread Wink but it'd be too hard to gather the information- there isn't a dump of this data to my knowledge, so each system would have to be visited... Shocked

The Eve Info guys have included the system size in their presentation.

http://eveinfo.com/evemap/

Use the drop downs to get to a system of choice, and you'll find it on the left hand side.

Well, son of a diddly. Shocked

OK, so tell me more then. Would a S, M, L size rating be enough, or would you want the actual AUs? I'd prefer the former, the latter would clutter the maps, and mean I have to make them larger = not great for printing

eg.
S = 0-10au
M= 10.1 to 30au
L= 30.1au to 50au
XL=50.1 +

Obviously the above are for illustration only.

As this is my first post here, I must say that the maps are a thing of beauty and a joy forever.

There is a system radius column in the data dump. I divided the numbers by 1M; I don't know what units they were in. You'll need to increase your tab stops to make the columns line up in the file I linked.

Also, might you consider coding refinery services such that systems where you can get a perfect refine appear differently than those where you cannot? I can provide a list if that would be helpful. Perhaps a different color for the "R" service icon?

Cheers,

Brisco Smiley

Thanks Brisco!

To take your points- I thought all refineries in NPC stations did 50% refine, is that not so? And what do you class a "perfect" refine?

With the radius, the data dump shows that, for instance, Van has a radius of 0.31245 or times by a million, 312450. Now, the page at http://eveinfo.com/evemap/ shows it has a radius of 7.21au. I'm not sure how you arrive at the 7.21 from the 312450, but as long as it's on Eve-Info I can use that instead.

No, some NPC stations (such as DuVolle Labs in the Sinq Laison Region) have a 30% base refine rate. What Brisco means that even with full refining skills, with a 30% base rate, you cannot achieve a 100% refine efficiency. There'll always be a little waste. With a 50% refine rate, you can achieve 100% efficiency.

Sorry, the columns were a bit out of alignment. 0.31245 is the security rating. The raidus of Van is 1081 million. Supposing that is in meters, we get ~7.2 AU (at ~150Mkm/au). I'll post a new file with the radii converted to AU.

Refining equipment at empire stations can have a base efficiency of 50%, 32% or 30% (at least, those are the ones I've seen). Refining at any station with equipment under 50%, you will always end up with some waste even if your skills are maxed out. In Aridia, there are 4 stations with less than 50% base efficiency. 3 of those systems contain other stations with better equipment. All of the (one) stations in Tukanas have worse than 50% base equipment. It is true that there is a refinery station in Tukanas, but as a practical matter, any ore mined there would be hauled to Soliara before being refined. I found 54 systems in the universe where this is the case. The list includes the most efficient equipment in each system.

I'm pretty handy with SQL. Are there any kinds of reports I could put together that might be useful to you?

Cheers,

Brisco Smiley

edit: and just for kicks, here is this...

This is just the sort of game where the SQL guys are the kings of this sort of thing!

Really interesting graph! You should pull some more of stats like that, put them into a graph and stick em on a website somewhere- people are mad for stats.

Thanks for your hard work, I'll have a think about how I would show a system size marker... at the moment I am upgrading Metropolis map and am getting very concerned about the size and how it'll print...

My personal view is that the current look of the maps is more than good enough, though I can understand wanting to upgrade for technical 'behind the scenes' reasons.

BTW, I have a few 'corrections' for the complexes in metro. I'll post them in the corrections thread.

Keep up the good work Smile

Here are the rest of the sizes, in case you decide to mark them.

Many thanks Brisco, very handy indeed!

Before I add data like that I need to complete the Metropolis revamp which is an interesting exercise... I have stopped for the Easter weekend, but now will finish it in the next few days.

First off, thank you for all of your hard work on the maps, Ombey. My corp uses your maps on a minute by minute basis!

Second, I was wondering if you would be willing to release your 2D information to the public as well... Open source it, as it were. I can think of a number of ways to put the Ombey 2D map data in SQL usable form, which means that tying things into the API and displaying them on a map in the IGB would be relatively trivial.

Basically, what would be needed is an X, Y pair of sufficient resolution for each system. We could, of course, just flatten the XYZ data from the API, but the genius of the Ombey maps is the time and effort that you've put into making them so legible and readable.

Releasing this data under a open-source, or some other license where you received credit would be an amazing asset to EVE in this day of the API.

Speaking of which, we also have a number of SQL wizards that would love to give you a hand. Just let us know what you need.
