Thanks for the feedback. Scalability will be the big crunch, I will do a large region next (gulp). The Blood Raider banner- seems like no-one really gets on with it, so I'll dispense with it. You may have missed the actual name of the faction under the region name, along with the coloured dots from the current maps for the ammo to use.
The gridline missing, lol, I must've deleted it by accident, but it got me thinking. Now you have the A-x and 1-y markers on the axis, are the gridlines necessary? I think it's easy to give a spot on the map a co-ordinate without the lines, but what do other people think?
I will add the complex abbreviations to the key, I was just testing how it looked.
Argh! You're right, I completely missed the pirate name under the region name. I guess that bright red banner kept catching my eye. Selective blindness, I suppose.
I'm not sure about the gridlines. They do make it easy to locate a specific system if you know the coordinates. Can you pop out say a v4.5 without the lines and let us see how it looks? It might make it less busy-looking, but I'd like to see how it affects finding a specific point.
you know, one other tool I thought would be nice.. would be a tool that you could generate a map with your choice of system as a center point, then have all systems circled around, one jump per-ring.. up to say 6 jumps.. I always thought that this would be handy for market centers..
Well, that's the trick, isn't it? One of the remarkable things about Ombey's maps is that there are so few crossing lines. That is an impressive feat, and not natural to the EVE geography. The area around Jita, for example is particularly troublesome. Beyond 2 jumps, such a diagram becomes unreadable and misleading.
Perhaps a more plausible feature request would be a few supplemental maps for particular areas or routes.

Yep, will do.

Absolutely- no reason why I can't do this.
One of the main reasons for me overhauling the maps is for a reason no-one would ever see: when I made the maps initally, i was a Visio noob. The lines connecting the systems are not glued to the vertices or shape outlines, so moving systems is a PITA.
Hmm. I don't think you'll need to include the actual grid lines. I believe the indexes on the sides are enough.
Given a set of coordinates, I was able to quickly scan to the area without difficulty, and by the same token, given a system, I was able to quickly determine the coordinates with no problem. And the map without the grid lines looks less cluttered.
So I would suggest keeping the indexes, but dropping the grid lines themselves.
Well.. I don't know.. It's looking too much like kiddy stuff.. with the thick lines and block fonts..
Granted you can't please all the people all the time.. simpler non-bold sans fonts. I like the station services in the colored blocks over the Bolded letters.
Did you lose the blue snowflake for Ice?
also is there a point to the constilations? I never use them in game.. so why bring them up in this map and muddle the map...

this is less kiss then I would like..
"Less kiss"? lol, not sure what that means, but I can guess.
I am back to the drawing board on this. My efforts to revamp the Metro map to this new standard have made me realise a few things. I will be making less sweeping changes I think, while introducing what people want.
Plus the fact RL is taking up more time than I anticipated atm.

Was it that the versions you were trying in the Arida map, just did not scale up clean and organize, or something else?

Regarding constellations, just because you don't need to know them, who's to say other people don't?
Is there any mechanic or reason that one needs to know constellations for High Sec or Low Sec space? I see why it would be useful for 0.0 Sov. issues, both from a defender and attackers point of view.[/quote] _________________
I seem to recall there was a reason for it. I think agents don't give you missions outside the constellation they're in. However, if someone can give me a good reason for it in empire?
Basically, although Aridia was OK, the fact I had to increase the size of the map, and therefore size of the font means that everything is so much bigger and thus will be smaller when printed.. defeating the object of making it bigger. As 90% of people print the maps, this isn't any good.
So I'll do a softly softly catchee monkee approach, and bring in subtle changes first, see how it goes. I can add most of the improvements without disturbing the map too much, but need to add space to some of the maps to improve readability, eg. tracing a route through with the eye. _________________ 2d EveMaps Website EveO forum thread Direct download of latest mapset (v3.54)

Well not that this is conclusive proof, but the kill missions agent I am currently abusing does seem to only give missions in his constellation. OFC that could also be that my agent is in the center of his constellation and the next closest constellation is 2j away in all directions.
As a side note, I know for a fact though that storyline agents will send you out of their constellation for courier missions. _________________
Just a few belated points of aesthetic/personal preference feedback on the Aridia v.4.1 map. Of course, I must preface them by saying how great the current maps (and your improvements) are—they're great:
• the black-and-white number-and-letter grid key around the outside seems a bit stark, maybe light grey and dark grey would be similarly functional without drawing attention away from the content;
• the blue doughnuts for out of region jumps seem big and brash compared to the other symbols;
• it might look tidier if all lines were of the same thickness (maybe making black into dark grey to maintain the density across the different colours of line), like how the 'borders' are (the green or red for system sec status);
• I'd make the shapes and symbols a consistent shape and size, with text running on top or outside the shapes, rather than having slightly different shapes for systems, and some out-of-region-jump circles bigger than others.
Overall, the simplification of all the lines is nice (though I'm sure that'll be harder to maintain in more complex regions).
Oops! I just noticed that there's a newer update thread and a new draft... and I see that you've adopted some of my suggestions before I'd even suggested them (e.g., consistent line thickness)—awesome!
Thanks for taking the time to make suggestions. I decided to tone down the changes I was making- rather than 1 huge change, i will make smaller changes, which will hopefully make things clearer.
