I am finally going to put into effect something I've been meaning to do for some time, yet not got around to yet- an overhaul of the maps.

To be honest, some regions are better than others, but some are just rrrrrubbish. Catch for instance. You can't see clearly any routes through the region, whether zoomed out or in.

So, the plan is to make it more readable and thus more usable, while keeping it simple.

Some improvements:

1. show routes that go out of region and back in again
2. space out the systems much more
3. identify pipes where applicable
4. probably stick with straight lines, dispense with curves (not sure about this one, will need to see how it looks)
5. possible overhaul of the station service markers to make them stand out more
EDIT- ADDED
6. allow copying of system names (if technically possible)
7. change colour of OOR jump markers
8. use colour on 0.0 maps to show constellation groupings and add const. names
9. emphasis 0.0 systems that connect to empire
10. highlight market hub systems even further
11. highlight main pipe routes
12. grid reference
13. indicate if out region jump changes hisec <> lowsec
14. add link back to universe map

Just some to be going on with. Any suggestions are always welcome, but I can't promise I'll be able to do them.

What do you think of showing a system width attribute defined as the longest distance between two gates in the system as showed ingame?

Could be useful when planning a route, when planning an escape and whatnot.

In 0.0 regions, please emphasise systems which connect to empire.

Ombey,

I am a huge fan of the maps in their present magnificence.

I have noticed some alternate paths where a possible route would briefly step outside the displayed region and then back in.

For instance, on the Kor-Azor map, there are two paths from Atarli to Nebian:
Atarli - Rannoze - Fensi - Nebian
and
Atarli - Menai - Noranim - Nebian

The second route is not apparent since the Menai - Noranim link is in the Genesis region.

Perhaps systems on the "edge" of regions could have their jumps be displayed to a certain "depth" into the adjacent region?

First, I use your maps a LOT and very much appreciate them, so THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!

I guess most use the maps in digital form. But I have printed them all out, and have put each in a sheet protector and keep them in a binder. I use erasable markers to make notations on a region map when I am doing explo or other stuff that requires me to remember where the heck I've been and what I need to remember about it. When thinking about upgrades to the maps, keep in mind that at least some of us are using printed out versions of the maps. It might lead to some other ideas on how to improve them...and if I think of any, I'll share them.

One that comes to mind: Be nice if the market hubs were in bold or a different color, or maybe had a star above the name. Something that would make them easier to find...this would be helpful to newer players especially. Also put a big red international "No" symbol over Jita, hee hee.

Being an Older Eve Player, in years, I find it very hard to see the colors of the systems leading off the map. Maby changing to a darker color would help.
Tks

First I would like to say HI and to thank you for your great work!

Regarding what zzcoins said .. I would sugest emphasizing the main routes with a bolder line or a double line eg. main pipes to Jita, Dixi, etc, from 0.0 regions and from other empire regions.

Another thing would be great if you could make the same constellation lines with diffrent colour or even the names of the systems in that constellation the same colour.

Other than this .. Great job.

Tib.

Neat idea! The only trouble with this is that unless this data is published somewhere, I would need to visit every single system Shocked or get people to send me in the data and hope they've done it right.

I really like it though... a lot.....hmmm. I might just start recording distances on my travels anyway and see what happens Very Happy

Absolutely, definitely. I spent a couple of hour last night doing just that with pen and paper. I was shocked to find out how many shortcuts there are going out of region and back in again!

Tell me- are the market hubs not being in a bigger font of any help? You may not have got a later version of the map, but a couple of versions ago, I enlarged the text of the trade hubs.

Having said that, I don't think they stand out enough anyway. I'd like to use a different colour- most market hubs are in hi-sec so them not being green isn't a big deal.

Yeah, the pipe routes will be highlighted, although I will need help with this as sometimes local knowledge beats the hell out of someone like me trying to do a map without knowing the area.

I am very tempted to use your colour idea in 0.0- making the 0.0 maps all red seems like a wasted opportunity to use colours in different ways.

Nice one, cheers. I guess it's the sort of information that doesn't seem useful at first glance, but if you were 0.0 ratting, and you had the choice of ratting in a huge system or small, I know what I'd choose.
